The gym can be a confusing place when you first start.
It’s not unusual to be concerned about learning to fit into the gym
environment. How do you share machines with someone? How do
you know when it’s your turn to use the treadmill? How do you get
help if you need it?
These are common questions gym members
ask during their first month or two with us. The following guide
should help you get started, or simply ask a staff member if your
question is not included here.
How do I get a Locker?
Lockers are first come first serve, but we have
plenty available. You need to bring your own
lock. We also recommend a key with a lock
instead of an old style combination lock. We are
not responsible for stolen or lost items.
What is that piece of exercise equipment?
It may take a while to learn all the pieces of exercise
equipment – what they are and what they do. If you
have any questions about any piece of exercise
equipment ask a Thunder Bolt Gym staff member to
explain what it is and how it works and if it would
make sense to include it in your program.
How do I set up an appointment for my first
few workouts?
We want you to get started properly by having a
trainer or one of our assistant trainers set you
up on your own program. The club has individual
workouts to help you learn the basics of
completing your first workout program.
Everyone has different degrees of experience,
so we tailor your workouts to the number of
appointments you will require according to your
individual needs. To schedule your workouts
and find out what help you may need, ask any
trainer or stop by the front desk. Please try to
keep the appointments you make, since last
minute cancellations and/or no-shows are
difficult for staff scheduling and for your fellow
gym members who may also require
assistance. Plan on scheduling your first three
workouts.
How do I know when it’s my turn to use a piece
of cardio equipment?
Our busiest times are usually in the early mornings
and early evenings before and after work. Of you’re
one of our gym members who like a fast 15 to 20
minutes, you’ll be fine. If you’re a person who would
like an hour-long walk on a treadmill (or other piece of
cardio equipment), we suggest you come a little
before or after the rush
.  We don’t set time limits on
our cardio equipment, but we do recommend that all
our gym members use a little common sense when it
comes to their cardio workout time. I
f you do find that
you are waiting for a specific piece of cardio
equipment, simply let the person currently on it know
that you would like to be next in line.
What do I do if I have a concern or a
question?
If you have any concerns or a suggestion stop
by the front counter. A form will be filled out and
we will address it as soon as possible. If it is a
matter that you feel is too serious for a
concern/suggestion form, see one of the
managers immediately and let them know what
it is you need.
How do I work in on the gym floor?
If you wish to share equipment with another gym
member, simply ask, “May I work in?” When you have
taken your turn and finished your set of exercises in a
timely manner, then others will be allowed to share. A
common rookie mistake is to use a piece of
equipment and then rest on it between exercise sets.
This does not allow others share and slows down the
pace of the gym. To rest, remove yourself from the
station, being aware that others may wish to use the
same piece if exercise equipment.
What other services does the gym offer?
You can receive personalized one-on-one
training by certified personal trainers. Thunder
Bolt Gym has a great introductory training
package along with several other packages.
You can also receive a body composition
analysis, which is a great way to help monitor
body fat and weight management, and will help
track your improvements.
